A Little History First
The original Mill Creek School was erected in 1879, built of logs with a fireplace for warmth. Fire destroyed the log building and a second schoolhouse of undressed siding was erected in 1893. In the early days the teacher boarded with a local family, and pupils were arranged according to readers rather than in age or grade groups. In 1914 the third schoolhouse was built. As a one-room, one-teacher school heated by a wood-burning stove. The only source of water for this building was a hand pump in the school yard. The first bus to serve the area was a Model-T driven by E.E. Fisher with Thelma Pacetti helping on an occasion. Mrs. Pacetti, who is still a resident of the Mill Creek Area began as teacher in 1926. She retired in 1975 after 46 years of service. The fourth building was erected in 1928 containing six classrooms, an auditorium, principal’s office, and an outside water fountain. Children brought sandwiches and ate them in a classroom where a big pot of soup was prepared daily. In the 1930’s the children raised some of the vegetables for the soup in a garden outside. Electricity came to Mill Creek in 1948. The current building was opened for the 1991-1992 school year. A 10 classroom wing was added in 2000, over the next decade portables were added and removed as growth showed the need. For 2011-2012 school year we opened our two-story 16 classroom addition behind the main building removing the need of portables for the 2012-2013 school year. In 2018, Mill Creek transitioned to an Academy.
